I went to Slippery Rock University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Safety & Environmental Management and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Science.
26 years.
I started as a Safety Director and today I am the Corporate Safety Director at Brayman Construction Corporation.
Our role is to be a voice for the crafts and our companies regarding safety. We assist in many initiatives that affect our team members and the community, such as work zone safety.
There are many opportunities in construction for women, from safety to pile drivers, laborers, operators, project managers, engineers, etc. With the demand for construction, there be will more opportunities for career advancement, advanced training, and education for long-term employment. The industry is challenging, but it is very rewarding when you are part of complex projects.
The site or project changes every day. It is not the same from the beginning to the end. The best part is when a project is finished and you can look back or drive by a bridge and say, “I was a part of that”, it’s a sense of accomplishment and pride.
I would be in loss control or manufacturing, but still in safety!
